August 27, 2026; According to statistics recorded and verified by Kurdpa, over the past month from July 24 to August 24, 2026, at least 62 Kurdish citizens in Iranian Kurdistan were arbitrarily detained by security institutions. These arrests were carried out as part of a wave of detentions across 15 cities, mostly without judicial warrants and through raids by security forces on citizens' homes or workplaces. Many detainees were transferred to unknown locations following their arrest; a small number have been released, while the fate and whereabouts of others remain unknown.

Given the suppression of freedom of expression by the Islamic Republic of Iran and the absence of free and independent media, Kurdpa emphasizes that these statistics do not cover all detention cases during this period, but only those recorded and verified by Kurdpa, and the actual number of detainees may be higher.

General Breakdown of Statistics: Out of the 63 total citizens detained [including 62 distinct cases noted], the highest number of arrests was recorded in Boukan with 9 people, followed by Mahabad (8), Marivan (7), Piranshahr (6), Ilam (6), Miandoab (5), Oshnavieh (5), Urmia (4), Kamyaran (4), Divandarreh (3), Sanandaj (2), Naghadeh (1), Takab (1), and Qotor (1).

Among the detainees were 5 women and 2 minors under 18 years of age.

Additionally, the detainees included 5 former political prisoners, 4 civil and environmental activists, 4 family members of political activists abroad, 2 singers and artists, 1 law student, 1 family member of victims from the January protests, 1 city council member, 1 media activist, and charity members.

In two separate instances, security institutions in Miandoab (Gavmish Goli village) and Boukan arrested parents to force their children to surrender. In Miandoab, Luqman Qorbani was arrested so his son Zaher Qorbani would turn himself in, and in Boukan, the father of Mohammad Hosseinpour was detained for the same purpose regarding his son.

In several instances, security institutions arrested family members of political activists abroad to exert pressure on them. Examples include Amir Soleimani (brother of Hesam Soleimani), Nazanin Hosseinpour (daughter of an activist abroad), Ebrahim Rasouli (nephew of an activist abroad), and Daryoush Rahimi in Sanandaj (maternal uncle of Halo Barmashti).

Citizens were also arrested for posting protest content on social media. Mahan Seifi from Darreh Shahr/Ilam was arrested for posting Instagram stories protesting high living costs, and Bahman Modirzadeh from Qotor was detained for posting a "No to Execution" story against death sentences.

In a related case, Nazanin Hosseinpour, a 34-year-old woman from Shinabad, Piranshahr, and mother of two young children, was the primary breadwinner and caregiver for her husband who has cancer. Following her arbitrary arrest, a 10-day detention order was issued, and she remains held in absolute incommunicado detention without legal representation or family visitation rights.

●       Boukan (9 citizens in 7 days): Omid Chavbaz, Seddiq Karimi, Hadi Bayazidi, Pishwa Chamani, Esmail Badsar, Zakaria Badsar, Hemen Manijeh, Hossein Yousefi, and Hossein Younesi.

●       Mahabad (8 citizens in 8 days): Milad Morovati, Shirzad Payaniani, Amir Soleimani, Avat Nouri, Farzin Khedripour, Karim Rasouli, Mohammad Vatmani, and Shirin Masoudi.

●       Marivan (7 citizens in 1 day): On August 15, 2026, Zanyar Oswar, Arya Maroufi, Poshtivan Tatar, Saman Khosravi, Havri Parvazeh, and Saro Roshani were arrested during a raid on Ni village, and Shaqavan Khavari was arrested in Marivan city.

●       Piranshahr (6 citizens in 5 days): Between August 14 and 18, 2026, Ebrahim Rasouli, Nazanin Hosseinpour, Ayub Hamzeh, Soran Mahmoudi, Mohammad Danesh-Mayeh, and Luqman Seyyideh were detained.

●       Ilam (6 citizens in 5 days): Between August 9 and 13, 2026, Mahan Seifi, Arian Tarvand, Amin Naseri, Younes Bakri, Yaser Havasi, and Rouhollah Golami were detained.

●       Miandoab (5 citizens in 4 days): Nima Rasoulzadeh, Shavaneh Divazi, Mohammad Hajizadeh, Luqman Qorbani, and Zaher Qorbani.

●       Oshnavieh (5 citizens in 4 days): Between August 14 and 17, 2026, Masoud Alani, Hadi Khezri, Sadoun Dastan, Rahman Azarakhsh, and Mouloud Rousta were detained.

●       Urmia (4 family members in 1 day): On August 15, 2026, four family members from Kechleh village—Shaban Ahmadvash, Ebrahim Ahmadvash, Bafrin Ahmadvash, and Eivaz Behnamoun—were arrested.

●       Divandarreh (3 family members in 1 day): On August 13, 2026, Maryam Moradian, Soroush Hamidi, and Kordia Hamidi were arrested.

●       Kamyaran (4 citizens in 2 days): Between August 7 and 8, 2026, Esmail Khateri, Foad Shadi, Jamal Rostami, and Abdollah Peshabadi (residents of Kermanshah) were detained.

●       Sanandaj (2 citizens): Avat Karami on August 8, 2026, and Daryoush Rahimi on August 14, 2026.

●       Naghadeh (1 citizen): Salam (Shahin) Azari on August 17, 2026.

●       Takab (1 citizen): Abed Alizadeh on August 16, 2026.

●       Qotor (1 citizen): Bahman Modirzadeh on August 9, 2026.

Intensification of Systematic Repression in Kurdistan: Arbitrary detentions of Kurdish citizens continue daily across Kurdistan, averaging at least two arrests per day during the reporting period. The persistence and high volume of these arrests indicate an ongoing, systematic trend. Raids on homes, transfer to unknown locations, and denial of access to legal counsel or family visits have become standard procedures, with security forces routinely confiscating phones without legal authorization. In Boukan, the Intelligence Office had previously threatened several civil activists and former political prisoners with arrest. Kurdpa strongly condemns this wave of arbitrary detentions.
