August 29, 2026; Yesterday, Saturday, August 29, 2026, the Revolutionary Court of Appeals in Urmia upheld the sentences against 29 out of 58 Kurdish citizens targeted in a legal case concerning a 2024 wedding ceremony, charged with "propaganda against the state through Kurdish dance and symbolism via khaki attire and Jamaneh." These 29 individuals were previously sentenced by the court of first instance to either a cash fine or three months of imprisonment.

According to an informed source speaking to Kurdpa, the case was initially opened by order of the Piranshahr Prosecutor in a branch of the Piranshahr Revolutionary Court interrogator's office against 58 citizens on charges of "propaganda against the state through dance and symbolism." In the initial trial phase, 29 of these citizens were acquitted after providing written commitments, while the remaining 29 were ordered to pay 20 million Tomans each to the government treasury or serve three months in prison upon non-payment. Yesterday, this sentence was affirmed in its entirety by the Urmia Appeals Court. The individuals involved currently intend to object to the confirmation of this verdict.

In January 2025, Kurdpa reported that 58 Kurdish residents of Piranshahr were summoned to an interrogation branch of the Piranshahr Court following their participation in traditional dancing at a wedding ceremony after videos of the event circulated widely on social media.

Subsequently, in August 2025, the initial verdict sentencing 29 of these individuals to three months of imprisonment or a 20 million Toman fine was issued by a branch of the Piranshahr Revolutionary Court.

The 58 individuals named in the case—including family members of "Kumar Daroftadeh" and "Amir Farastishad," who lost their lives during the Woman, Life, Freedom movement in Piranshahr—are:
