Baneh: Following the Violent Arrest of Houshyar Shabani, Omid Ahmadpour Also Detained Over Use of His Vehicle

On Wednesday, August 19, 2025, in the aftermath of the violent and bloody arrest of Houshyar Shabani, a former political prisoner and Kurdish civil activist from Baneh—who was shot in the leg by security forces—another young man named Omid Ahmadpour, also from Baneh, was arbitrarily arrested without a judicial warrant, solely because Shabani had been using his vehicle at the time of the arrest. He was taken to an undisclosed location.
According to a source who spoke with Kurdpa, on the evening of August 19, 2025, after security forces shot and arrested Houshyar Shabani near the city of Kani-Sur, they detained Omid Ahmadpour without presenting any legal documentation, merely for the fact that Shabani had been in his car.
As of the time of publication, there is no information about the reasons for Omid Ahmadpour’s arrest or any charges that may have been brought against him.
Omid Ahmadpour is a resident of the village of Suvich, in Baneh County.
Earlier the same day, Houshyar Shabani was shot in the leg and violently arrested by security forces near Kani-Sur, without a warrant. He has been subject to persistent harassment, threats, surveillance, arbitrary arrests, and fabricated charges by Iranian security agencies in recent years.
